About the Performans

The idea of a table as a platform for gathering friends and random passers-by was born in 2000, when the Urban Picnic project started in Zagreb. At that time, this was also a site-specific installation, a performance, in which an ordinary table changed its meaning by being dislocated and its context changed. This created an artistic move, which aroused the interest of random passers-by, for it created a surprise, indicated an artistic intention.

Over time, the character of the Supper with the Artist changed; it became a subtle performative act, within which the 'performance', 'execution' was omitted. The singularity of the moment was established by the setting, the elements laid on the table, the created ignorance of the expectation that something 'artistic' is going to happen, something that regularly lacked in the expected form.

I intend to add a 20-minute performance piece and an Armageddon 5.0 bottle (the fifth year of the bottle with the aforementioned name) to the Supper with the Artist, which will take place in Ljubljana as part of the Infinite Present festival. The very concept of Armageddon opened a platform for conversations about its character, the contents of my artistic activity, the time we live in and the perspective of the future. Sven Moro, an architect with broad knowledge in several scientific fields, will present a new climate model, according to which climate change is a prelude to a return to the pre-flood state, when, according to the Bible, there was a watery 'vault' (greenhouse effect) above the earth, which protected the earth from cosmic radiation and provided a subtropical climate, without extreme heat on the equator and extreme cold on the poles, without precipitation, but with strong condensation, dew that irrigated the earth. Igor Anjoli, a culinary expert with extensive experience in preparing and combining food and wine, will take care of the culinary part of the Supper with the Artist during which selected and well-thought-out food will be served, which corresponds to the strong red Armageddon wine and the delicate white Malvasia Reset.

About the Artist

Tomislav Brajnović was born in Zagreb in 1965. He finished the first year of the Academy of Fine Arts in Den Haag. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1999, under professor Đura Seder. In 2023, he completed his MA Fine Art postgraduate studies at Central Saint Martins University of London. In a fantastic but dangerous world, he fights to redefine the concept of history and the history of art. He presupposes meaning, spiritual and ethical values with formal, material, archaeological, historical, conventional, so-called 'artistic' forms. From this position, he questions customs, traditions, heritage, obligations. This standpoint also presupposes a questioning of one's own position. In one moment, he defined himself as a man with the experience of an artist. He works intensively and exhibits at home and abroad. He works as an associate professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka.
